Wow! Has Monday already rolled around? I have really been enjoying myself this weekend, making a LOT of stuff! What about you? With the creative juices flowing and three days off, I did not want to miss a single opportunity to put everything into a completed project. With that said, today is my ABC day and I’m sharing with you my new “Quite Contrary” line through Spellbinders that will be released in March.
For the first card, we have another basic design. There are die-cut flowers and leaves, two strips of patterned paper and a sentiment. Now I am going to share with you a great beginner tip. Last week I spoke about choosing just three colors. This week I want to let you know what is absolute on most everything I create. I choose a background. It can be plain, colored or patterned. I then chose a main focal point. Here, it is the flower. And then, I choose a sentiment. These are standard rules of thumb for me. I don’t even think about them anymore. I just do them. Obviously, different types of art can vary from this. I don’t know that I see that style always in mixed media but I think the logic behind this is, that you want the eye to float around the page and not get “stuck” somewhere. It’s the same for colors. Until you get the basics down, it just gets messy adding too much in there. Once proficient, go for it!
