Hi everybody! Thanks for joining me on the Spellbinders blog hop trail! I’m sure you have seen some amazing projects so far. We have many talented creatives showcasing some of their favorite new collection pieces but if you missed seeing any of them, there are links at the bottom of this post. You won’t want to skip a one!
When I was asked to be a part of the hop, I knew immediately I wanted to do mixed-media and I couldn’t think of any dies that fit more perfectly than those from our licensed designer, Seth Apter. I have really shaken up the box though. There are so MANY possibilities with these dies than what meets the eye. Once I got going, I couldn’t stop! Not sure what Seth is going to say. I hit a bit of the girly side with one of my projects, but hey, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, right? But first, vintage and grunge…
Paper Collage with Outlaw Die
I created this Outlaw piece (new) by die cutting one piece of watercolor paper and several sheets of black card stock. I painted black gesso onto the watercolor paper and then added several different colors of Paper Artsy paints to the piece until I got the look I was going for. I layered it with the black card stock pieces using black foam dots. Collecting ephemera is one of my specialties so I layered them all up and attached them to this clipboard.
I love all the textures and colors that the layered paint created. Can you see them? It’s hard to believe it is made from paper and paint!
My favorite paints hands down are Paper Artsy because they are chalk-based acrylics and aren’t glossy.
I used the drop out pieces from the die as well, placing them on the sides of the paper to create a worn and weathered look. Spilling a little bit of coffee on the paper helped too! :).
This is a tighter shot of the die that was supported by the ephemera. I added stencils from StencilGirl to emphasize the shape of the Outlaw die and carry out the postal-type theme. Of course mail is always a “secret”. The sentiment and numbers are from of one of Seth’s stencils by StencilGirl. The Never-Ending Mini Calendar is by Carolyn Dube for StencilGirl as well.
These are a few of my ephemera supplies I hoarded, um, “collected” over the past year…or two ;). Decided to finally use them! Surprised how well they all worked together.
Here is what the die actually looks like. It’s available for purchase at the end of this post.
The beauty shot. I love the whole look and feel of this project. I think I may take on another one! What do you think?
So that was my paper collage with the “justified” Outlaw.

Ready to go big? Think girlie…And pretty…and pink!
Because Anything Is Possible
Bet ya didn’t think this could happen. Do you think you can’t make this? Hmmm, I’m thinking you could be wrong. Using the new Splat die by Seth Apter, I die-cut the image from watercolor paper and then using a watercolor brush and watercolors, I did swirly watercolor marks in the center of the Splat, adding deeper shades as I moved towards the middle. I die-cut Splat again from a piece of gold card stock and attached it to the back of the watercolored Splat die cut. It was then embellished with some green velvet leaves. Before attaching it to the card base, I cut a circle out of patterned paper that was almost the same size as Splat. I adhered that piece to a mat that was slightly smaller than the card base. The mat was then placed onto the main card. I stamped and cut out a sentiment and adhered it to the card .
So, do you think you could do it? I know you can!
