In the blink of an eye, this card goes from traditional to holiday!

20 Nov

Hi everyone!  So happy you joined me for the Spellbinder’s blog hop. Not only are you in for inspirational treats by some amazing designers, but on the Spellbinders blog, you will have an opportunity to win one of five, $50.00 gift certificates!  More information is located at the bottom of this post.  Anyway, if you are new here, I’m Debi Adams and I am an in-house creative and collection designer at Spellbinders Paper Arts. I am more than excited to bring you two projects featuring my latest collection, “Love, Set, Match”.  If you followed my blog last week, you saw a daily reveal of each set within the collection.  I am continuing with that today, showing you two different cards that can be made from one stamp and die set.

This holiday card was created from the set, “Near and Far”.  And guess what?  The map is removable and it becomes an ornament! I will take you through the steps to make this giving-card.

Card One-A Christmas/Holiday Card

*To create this 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card, use several layers of patterned paper to form a base.

*Die-cut the map from white cardstock, foam felt and thin cork board. Die-cut the outline from black cardstock.

*Apply various shades of distress ink to the white map using the Tool ‘n One with the circle foam applicator.

*Stamp the sentiment in white on the flip side of the black outline.

*Adhere the colored map to the cork board then to the foam felt. (I put the cork board in there because I thought at some point, it might be cute to put tiny little map pins and string into the base to indicate the location of the recipient as well.  Just a different twist).

*After attaching a small loop of black twine to the foam felt, adhere the black outline in place.

*Die-cut and color the cactus, house and heart with markers and adhere them in place.

*Add black and white pen details to the map, cactus and heart.

*Hot glue some holly and berries to the top of the map.

*Use repositionable tape to secure the map in place.

Lastly, don’t forget to stamp the sentiment on the front.  I stamped mine with white ink on a strip of black cardstock.

That’s it!

Here’s a view of just the ornament…

And one last look before we move on…

Card Two

Are you ready for the standard, all-occasion card version? It is even easier!

*Again I used the same card base dimensions as the previous card,  but I made it from black cardstock.

*For the mat, cut a 3 3/4″ x 5″rectangle from white cardstock.

*Apply blue ink to the center of the white cardstock using the Tool ‘N One and circle foam applicator.(The “lightly pouncing” method is best when applying it to the center of card unless you use the negative space from a circle template, then you can use the foam applicator to brush the ink inward).

*Flick inked image lightly with a water mister and allow to dry.

*Stamp sentiment in black to front of mat, below center of card.

*Die-cut map from white cardstock and map outline, from black cardstock. Die-cut the smaller images in your choice of colors.

*Embellish map as indicated in previous instructions. Embellish house, cactus and heart with markers.

*Adhere twine and embellishments onto map using foam dots and adhesive.

*Attach map to outline using foam dots.

*Adhere map to card base.

Sups cute. And you know what’s nice? This set comes with 4 different stamp sentiments, 1 stamp image and 9 dies! Lots of variety there.

Here’s a list of supplies used.  If you want to purchase any of the Spellbinder products or dies shown here, just click on the product link and you will be taken to an affiliate program.  Though I receive a small percentage from the sale, your price is never effected :).
