Monday’s Motivation

21 Mar

Good morning..scratch that! Good afternoon! Hope your week is off to a good start.  Unfortunately for me, it looks like a dreaded trip to the dentist, and a new one at that!  I think it’s going to be a root canal too…ugg!  So, let’s not go there. Lol! Let’s play instead.  I’m going to show you another flower using the same die I used last week, Pocketful of Posies, from my “Quite Contrary” line by Spellbinders. This flower is so easy to create that kids can do this.  I recently had three, 9 year old girls, give it a shot and their flowers came out beautiful!  For tutorial purposes, I have created this flower from several different colors of tissue paper but you can choose whatever colors you like.

The only technique involved in making this flower is the initial folding.  You are going to cut a piece of tissue paper twice as wide and long as the die shows.  You will then fold the tissue paper in half lengthwise and widthwise.  Now, here is where the trick is.  In order to make this flower piece extra wide and long, you will need to place BOTH folds inside the cutline and then die-cut as usual.

If you have done it correctly, your piece should look like this…

You will then cut a small strip to go inside all the flower pieces and cut the edges with 5-bladed scissors. It should look like this.

Once you have cut both sides of your strip of tissue paper, you are ready to pleat it all up.  You do not have to be perfect in your “gathering” technique.  When you get to the end, simply tie it off with wire.

I wrapped the wire around the front and twisted in the back.

This is how the front of the flower looks…

Lastly, and my favorite part, is to begin pulling apart all the petals.  It just looks soooo pretty and gives it dimension.  Can you imagine a bunch of these as table decorations?  Hmmm, think I may want to make these for a baby “sprinkle” shower.  (That’s the latest term for a second baby, generally of the same sex as the first baby).

So if you didn’t learn anything from my flower making, perhaps you gained a new vocabulary word.  Lol!  I’m trying to stay up with the latest trend.

Glad you came here today.  Always a joy to share with others.

XO,

Debi
