Monday’s Motivation

Hello! Last week was simply amazing.  I had some great estate sale finds and taught a felt headband class at Pinspiration.  Might be a little hard to top that this week. We will see what happens :).  In the meantime, I want to bring you one of my larger flower dies that is extremely versatile in style and a guaranteed fun project! As you will see during the week, Pocketful of Posies, can be a relatively small flower or it can be created “rosette-style” and made as large as you like.  I will be featuring the latter one today. This flower can be created from tissue paper or crepe paper and from one color or mono chromatics.  Obviously, the nicest part of making your own decorations is that you get to make/match it however you want.

First, we will use the largest and longest die-piece on the Pocketful of Posies die.   To extend the length of the piece of tissue/crepe paper, fold several layers of the paper in half. Lay the one end of the folds just inside the last row of scallops (see below) and die-cut the paper.   Make sure that one end of the folds are on the INSIDE of the cut line so that they do not get cut.  This technique will allow your scallops to be one continuous strip.

This is how they should look when they have been cut.  They should be double the length.

Next, you will need to cut a circular disk from card stock or you can use a paper plate.  It will be slightly smaller than what your actual flower size will be.  Pinch or gather the bottom end of your tissue paper. Starting from the outside edge of the circle, begin hot gluing the tissue paper in place.  Continue in this manner, spiraling inward, and adding additional pieces until you are at the center of the circle.

To finish off the flower, I just rolled a strip of tissue paper, kind of like you roll a snake of clay then I began curling it inward, as shown in the picture.  I like to use this non-stick mat because I can put a puddle of hot glue there and put my curled up tissue paper into it.  Once dry, I  peel it up and hot glue it to the center of the flower.

I actually used two shades of tissue paper for the center of this flower and several shades of pink and coral for the flower itself.  I think it makes it looks so soft.
