Monday’s Motivation and a Whole Lot More!

23 May

Welcome back to Monday’s Motivation.  If you aren’t quite ready for Monday, that’s ok. Take a deep breath and we will go through this together.  It could be the start of something very good :).

I’m back from a great work/vacation trip to NYC and am so very excited and motivated to bring you new projects from my line of stamps and dies at Spellbinders.  Since  I am the spotlighted designer at Spellbinders this week, I thought it would be appropriate to create projects that would work on their blog as well as mine.  I will say, I  probably have way more pictures than usual because I’m feeling quite ambitious.  (And that’s a lot to say because I have a LOT of energy).  See what a little inspirational vacation can do?  Despite the fact that I was fighting off a NYC bred cold,  I was on one great big arty/crafty roll on Saturday afternoon. And as bad righteousness would have it, you get to see all the junk I piled into this post.  Let me get the products listed right away so that I can move quicker through the photos.  I used four die sets for all of the party decor.  I used Tussy Mussy,  Pocketful of Posies, Positively Peony and Fresh Sentiments.  They can all be found here.

So this is my vignette for a party or shower.  Are you noticing some of my vintage finds in there?
Here is a very simple card made with Fresh Sentiments and the left over pieces from Pocketful of Posies (the scalloped piece) and the Tussy Mussy (the decorative aqua piece under the sentiment).  I tucked in a doily behind the sentiment to add a soft touch to the card.

Now here is something that you might not figure a tag could be used for.  I created this necklace but didn’t want to just tuck it in a box so I attached it to the tag and made it work for a necklace holder.  Notice the tag is going in a different direction than originally intended and it works well that way too!
My inspiration for this tea bag tag is really from the tea cup itself.  Its delicate painting is so very pretty.  I just translated the colors onto my tag and folded the tag in half and hand wrote the sentiment.
A quick pic of all three plus my beautiful, favorite $2.50 cent plate.  LOVE the gold trim.
Further back in my blog, I showed how to create these tissue paper flowers from my Positively Peony die.   Wish I had more time to make bouquets of these.  The are so fun to make and add so much color to a party.

The project above and below were both designed from my Tussy Mussy die.  The pictures of how I made these are listed at the bottom of the post.  I hand-painted the cone on the right, while I purchased colored, patterned paper for the one on the left.  You can choose which one works best for you and your skill set.

Can you believe this hat was made from the Tussy Mussy die too?  Yep.  Just die-cut two of the larger pieces and adhered the two sides together and added stretchy silver string.  Lots of versatility with that die.
Of course the plate was my color inspiration for these tags.
Here is a picture of my parts and pieces that I used to create the party decor.  The fru-fru on the right (as I like to call it) was pre-purchased at a home decor store.  The scalloped piece in the center is doubly-long because I folded the paper in half, placed it on the smaller scalloped portion of the Pocketful of Posey die, and laid the folded edge just INSIDE the cut line.  (See the negative image to the left of the scallop.  That was what it looked like folded up).  The small decorative piece at the bottom center-right, is the same piece I used underneath the sentiment of my card.

To explain how I created the scallop around my cone, take a closer look at this pic.  After I cut the doubled scallop card stock paper (lighter pink), I scored the scallops and then snipped them about 1/2″ in on that folded line.  It made it so easy to adhere the scalloped piece to the inside edge of the cone.  Notice how it gets wrapped and tucked inside the cone on the right.

For the festoon around the sentiment, fold the tissue paper in half lengthwise and width wise, setting both folds just slightly INSIDE the straight cut lines.  (See here for a better view).  When completed, unfold the scalloped piece entirely and  then gather it up in the center.  Secure in place with a small piece of string (shown here by the pin).   Adhere the scalloped edges together at the top and bottom so that you can no longer see where the beginning and ending places occur and add a dab of hot glue to the center to prevent the fan from unfolding.  Use the opposite side of the completed festoon to adhere to the cone.  My favorite technique for the hot glue part is to put a dab of hot glue onto this Ranger Ink mat, place the fan’s center in the glue and allow to dry.  When cool, simply pull up the fan off the mat.  Wah-la!
Well that is the final round-up.  I hope you have enjoyed this post as much as I have had in designing the projects.  I love art!  Which piece was your favorite?  Hope your Monday is off to an incredible start!
XO,
Debi
