Almost Fall Ya’ll

15 Aug

Fall. It will be here before you know it and it’s my favorite time of the year! Of course I always set myself up for these unrealistic expectations as to what I am going to make and do as I head into this season but not this time! Got on top of it! So here you go. You can do this too!

Here is the easy part. I bought the pumpkin at TJ Maxx. Love that store. I then die-cut and made each of the flowers that are on top. The curly, mossy wire is from Hobby Lobby. To create the flowers you will need a variety of colors of crepe paper. The tighter the crinkles in the crepe paper, the better it stretches and the “ruffly” the flower, but all forms of crepe paper will work for these flowers.

You can die-cut all the petals (smallest one) using my Positively Peony die from Spellbinders.

To create the center of the flower you will need to cut a 2″ X 5″ piece of tissue paper. Fold it in half length-wise, then snip it with regular scissors or five bladed scissors for a quicker process. Don’t cut all the way to the base of the strip.

Begin rolling the center of the flower by inserting and hot gluing a piece of 22 gauge wire to the end of the tissue paper. When finished, hot glue in place.

Now you are ready to attach the petals. I hot glued all of mine around the center stamen you just created. When you attach the first petal, gently stretch the crepe paper near the bottom of the flower. This will produce a cup-like shape. Adhere this to the bottom of the stamen. Continue using a hot glue gun to add each petal, remembering to slightly overlap each one. Once you have made the flower the size you want, use floral tape to cover the entire stem, top to bottom.

Adhere the curly moss wire to the pumpkin and attach several colors of the flowers to the pumpkin.  Die-cut leaves from crepe paper and felt using the Simple Anemone die. I curled some green floral wire and added it to the mix. It seemed to give it a natural feel. Additions of rounded felt balls  completed the look.

And there you have it! One project down for the season. You can do this too!

Happy making!
