A One and a Two…

12 Sep

Hi friends!  Back on Monday’s Motivation to bring you two cards that are beginning and intermediate levels.  I will be showcasing several more interpretations of this card that are advanced and mixed-media driven later this week so I hope you will come back again.

The first card (above) is obviously, my intermediate card and the instructions are listed below. Just a beginner? No problem. Here is an easy card below for you to get started. Just die-cut the leaves out of card stock and adhere to a pre-purchased plain card front. If you don’t want to invest in an alphabet die set, try purchasing some stickers or foam alphabet stickers from the hobby store. Adhere those to the front of your card and you are done :). You can get the leaf die here.

To create the intermediate card you will need to have a non-stick mat for watercoloring. (To find distress inks go here). One of my favorite ways to use my distress inks is as watercolors. Simply turn them upside down on the mat and press down.

Then come back in and mist them with water until little beads form.

Now lay your mixed media or watercolor paper into the watered solution. If you don’t have enough color, go back and double-dip or wipe your mat off and start the inking process all over again. It’s all in the layering and blending.img_0357

To get the bits of sprinkles, I added a little more ink to an almost dry mat and placed my slightly-wet paper back in.

Let your paper dry and then die-cut and emboss the leaves. (You can purchase the leaf die “I Will Never Leaf You” by Spellbinders from here.) I also went back and used a distress foam applicator tool to add additional color to the edges of the leaves.

Everything else is just assembly. I matted a rectangular-piece of watercolor/mixed-media paper with green card stock and then watercolored the white paper. Next adhere that piece to the center of your patterned card base. Die-cut your sentiment from corrugated paper using the Type-Oh alphabet die set by Spellbinders (here) or buy a pre-made one of your choice. Now layer them up, attach some letters and leaves with pop-dots to add dimensionality. Embellish with a bow and some flowers. (These are twisted fabric flowers.) Now you are finished. Easy, fun and ready to go.

Be looking for two more cards here later this week!

XO,

Debi

Fantastic as always. And — “It’s all in the layering and blending” – I couldn’t agree more.
