For some reason I seem to be “stuck” on cactus this week. (Pun intended, lol!). I suppose that is normal considering where I live and the response to my recent Halloween costume , but really, they are so trendy. Here is a little home decor project I created using my new stamp and die set “Cacti” from my Wild and Free Collection by Spellbinders.
This decorative stitchery is very easy to do. You will need the following supplies:
Wild and Free Cacti Stamp and Die Set by Spellbinders (found here).
felt-(wool felt is best)-colors of your choice
embroidery floss-complimentary colors of your choice
embroidery needle
cotton fabric-muslin, lightweight twill or denim
small embroidery hoop
fusible web
hot glue gun
permanent Ink-I recommend Hero Arts Intense Black-It’s permanent and doesn’t bleed
acrylic block for sentiment
iron
Apply fusible web to the back side of the felt.
Die-cut images from the felt.
Peel backing off die-cut pieces.
Arrange images onto fabric and fuse into place using iron, following manufacturer’s instructions.
Stamp one of the sentiments in the set onto the fabric using permanent ink pad.
Insert fabric into hoop and tighten screw at top.
Embellish with embroidery stitches ( I used a running stitch, a chain stitch and some cross stitches). *If you are not an embroidery person, these cacti will look nice with out the stitches too! Look here for the how-to’s for embroidery stitches.
Stitch sentiment using a back stitch.
Make sure fabric is fully stretched again onto hoop and tighten screw again if necessary. Trim off excess fabric and adhere edges to inside of embroidery hoop.
Well that’s it. Great beginner project. Fun for an intermediate and advanced crafter. Think of the cute gift this will make. Hope you will give it a try!
XO,
Debi
