Paint, Stencils, Rust and a Story

11 Feb

Every now and then I get the urge to create something unique and different that is not in my normal wheelhouse.  As some of you know, I work in the creative industry where I get to do art everyday.  Generally my art is based on specific requirements for a particular job and although there is some creativity and freedom in there, it is not quite the same as creating in my own home space with my artistic direction.  This week I found the need to play in the mixed media realm, which I find completely satisfying.  It is like trying to solve a puzzle but with very little rules or direction.  There is just something about watching it all come together that satisfies the inner soul.  It’s probably a lot more about problem solving than anything else and although math was never my strongest suite, it was a subject I always loved, so this kind of fits that niche. With that being said, here is my project.  I loved using my rusty guitar piece.  I can let go of all my junking finds :).

To create this project, I used the stencils Inside-out by Seth Apter and X Rows by Michelle Ward, all produced by StencilGirl.  I love their stencils. They take art to another level. I used Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain and Vintage Photo Distress Stain (for the background), Cracks and Specks stamp by Tim Holtz, a white signo pen for the details, mixed-media paper as my substrate, Seth Apter’s Coffee Ring and Robo Ring dies by Spellbinders, a small box, jute, blue cording, canvas mat and of course, my rusty guitar tunings.

And there you have it! I’m ready to tackle another one, but first coffee and perhaps a junkin’ run today!

XO,

Debi

I came over from Seth’s blog to see more of your piece – it is wonderful! I love how you incorporated the rusty guitar tuning element. Mixed media at its very best!
