Hi friends and welcome to another fabulous StencilGirl blog hop and giveaway! As many of you already know, today is Earth Day and in honor of the occasion, the StencilGirl Design Team is featuring projects done in our Resketch book. What’s a Resketch book you ask? It’s a mini-blank book that has a lot of recycled paper inside. It’s really cool and is perfect for art journaling, writing or for however you want to use it. It’s also small enough to take with you anywhere! I chose to use my book as an art journal. I was scratching my head (or rather trying to get my brain to work, lol) as to what to put inside when sweet Mary Nasser reminded me of a recent event that was definitely worth remembering and journaling about. Nearly a month ago, my first granddaughter, Kenley Mae arrived. She made an absolutely perfect topic and so here’s my beautiful girl enhanced by some great stencils. Let me show you how I created this mini-page.
First thing I did was apply gesso to the page,
and added puddles of watercolor paint. I started off with a pale pink and then came back in later with splashes of spring green. This was done in a random fashion.
I applied black acrylic paint to the Hash Marks stencil by MaryBeth Shaw and pink paint to the Never Ending Mini Calendar stencil by Carolyn Dube. Kind of messy but it so worked. Adding texture paste to Single Cross-Mini stencil by Andrew Borloz gave some dimension to the page. Notice I put it on three different places to create a visual balance.
I penned and watercolored Petite Posies and Petite Greens by Tammy Tutterow onto Arches watercolor paper then cut them out and scattered them around the two pages. I actually watercolored one and some leaves directly onto the journal as well.
Before putting the picture down, I added most of my pen and ink details. I love using both black and white pens. Any mistakes or uncertainties, are made unnoticeable by the “markings” of these pens. They pull everything together and make it all work.
After I adhered my photo, I went back in with Starlight Mini stencil by Lesley Riley and, using my white pen, added “stardust” just to the edge of the photo and onto the page. This tied into the sentiment that I wrote on the left side of the page “Stardust and moon beams”. Funny thing happened after I wrote that in. I remembered Kenley’s room is done in white stars. Perfect.
And this was the end result…
Page one and two are done! Do you do any art journaling? With this little Resketch book it’s so quick and easy to get started. No reason not to. I hope you will jump in. What a sweet page. I love it all, but I am particularly drawn to the dimensional crosses and the 3-D flowers you watercoloured and then cut out. They are beautiful highlights on the page without being overwhelming. A memorable page for your beautiful grand-daughter.
