Back in November I was asked if would be interested in doing some projects for Tim Holtz over at the Sizzix booth for Creativation, the art & craft industry’s yearly trade show. Having worked with Tim many years back, I knew this was an easy fit and definitely in my wheelhouse. The theme of a green house was a great enticement. The hardest part was keeping the secret. There were a lot of fun dies to play with and I couldn’t share how cool they were. I was anxious to get started and then life happened (a family wedding, the holidays, etc.) and I wasn’t able to get started until January…eeek! Talk about cutting it close. Fortunately I was able to pick up and run with lots of ideas. I pretty much did the majority of it on New Year’s Day, believe it or not. Some projects might be hard to tell they are dies at all! I loved this collection and I believe most are available in April. I would check with Tim if you have any questions. Today I am only featuring one of my projects but I will show more in the coming days. For whatever reason this paint tray is by far my favorite piece. It was a “last-minute-I-got-one-more-idea” project and I just so happen to collect vintage paint trays among other things. And these daisies…I love them. Such a fun flower and they always say “happy”.
No matter the angle, these flowers are sweet. I colored them with copic markers (my fav) and a fine, permanent black pen.
Deciding the colors and then how to make them stand…
And this was what transpired…
Such a happy little garden and so easy to create! As soon as they return home, they will be on my desk. Stay tuned for more projects in the next few days!
XO,
Debi

I just love this!
Please share how you got them to stand up in the paint tray. What paper did you use and did you use multiple layers of paper to give them more dimension?
Thanks for sharing!

I too like others want to know how you got the daisies to stand up. I’m wanting to make this as a gift for my Studio Art Major daughter for one of her graduation gifts from her crafty MOM. I saw this when Tim went around the booth at Creativation and I made a screen shot from the video. I’ll try my hand at recreating even without know how but would love to have more details. Thanks so much for sharing!

Not only does the way you detailed the flower dies make them look sensational, but the whole idea of this project is absolutely genius. Unique is hard to come by these days…and this one is truly one-of-a-kind.
