So hey, a while back Tim Holtz showcased some of his brand new Sizzix products that I was fortunate enough to get to play and create with and I thought it was about time I showed a project here on my own blog. Today is not about a blog hop or a giveaway, though I love those, it’s more like some personal time with you, highlighting some great new products that are out and available. Now is the time to jump in on getting those projects made so they are here in time for the season. If you are interested in any of the dies, etc., there are links at the bottom of this post. If you are here for the fun and ideas, continue reading. Whatever the reason, I’m glad you joined me.
So my project for today is this framed fall piece.
So how cute are all these die images?? Yea. Pretty sweet! I love them too! I used the “Frightful Things” and “Bat Crazy” thinlits as well as the “Skull & Crossbones” Bigz die to create this scene. (The new alphabet font is coming in early October!). Those pumpkins are so incredibly versatile. You can place black cardstock inside of them and make some spooky eyes or you can back them in a similar orange color for that “carved” pumpkin look. Of course a light splattering of black paint on the pumpkins was called for. And then there is the moon set a glow with several shades of distress oxides and misted with water.
And let’s talk about the background. I watercolored the background using a water brush and watercolors, but you could use distress inks as well. A dusting of crystal clear glitter gave this a vintage look. (Do you remember those cards from the 50’s with the glitter on them? Yes, that 🙂 ). And here’s a tip…try cutting the witch’s hat from a dark gray instead of black and then shade with a black marker. It gives awesome shading and provides a little dimension to an otherwise flat hat.
The little tiny spider’s web seemed so perfect for the corner of the frame…kinda like it grew there. :). Oh hey, wondering about the “picket fence”? Check out Tim’s new Skull and Crossbones. 🙂 It’s all about looking at things not as they are.
Finally, Vintage Photo Distress Ink always comes in handy for aging things. I used it on my picket fence, pumpkins and lettering.
I put this entire “pumpkin community” into a weathered frame and onto my tablescape. Happy to have something new for Halloween. What are you going to create, upcycle or recycle? I’m sure it will be fabulous!
XO,
Debi
