DIY Halloween Decor-Part 3, Tim Holtz Skull & Crossbones

3 Oct

Happy mid-week my friends and welcome to my DIY Halloween Decor Part 3 featuring Tim Holtz’ Skull & Crossbones by Sizzix.  I really had some fun trying to think outside of the box with this one.  I love challenges.  Wait, let me rephrase that. I love challenging my mind with ART stuff. Lol.  As some of you know, I worked with a few  big crafting companies in the past and I would get job assignments that required me to create seasonal items for big box retailers that they didn’t actually carry in store. For example, they might want Halloween items but they actually carried no dies that were Halloween. Head scratching or brain digging? I chose the latter.  Anyway,  I grumbled through the process, pretty much the whole time, (still do),  and then absolutely loved where I ended up.  Perhaps that’s where they got the saying, “It’s all about the journey”?  Anyway, here’s my able-bodied skeleton using several of Tim’s dies. I had to go deep here because I didn’t want you all to have to do any drawing or hand-cutting of your own. Btw, all products are listed at the bottom of this post.

Isn’t he just the cutest? I don’t really do the scary side of Halloween. I know a few of you mentioned the same thing with my last post. I get it. I think it’s so nice that this guy actually lends himself to whatever you want to put on his face. I chose happy. So let’s look closely and literally, disect him. His skull was embossed with the 3-D Crackle Texture Plate. LOVE that plate. I embellished him with Vintage Photo ink, a blending tool, a light gray Copic marker, a thin, permanent black pen and a white, unibal pen. The spider came from the Frightful Things set.

Next is the chest. Definitely the most pieces to cut BUT wait, this is a steel rule die so you can cut several out at a time. Cool! I first gave my guy a backbone because like, doesn’t everyone need one? I then attached several bones. You get to decide how many you want. At the shoulders, elbows and hand, I added small brads.

As they say on Jeopardy, “What is the hand?” … Spooky! 🙂 ( The ghost from the Frightful Things set.)

Ah, my favorite part…the hips! Do you see what I see? Sorry but it was the closest thing in the collection that fit the bill. Ok, sorry, not sorry.

And then there are the legs and feet.

Same story 🙂

And there you have it. Not so hard and required only three dies!

Hope you get to make one. Time is a ticking. Halloween is just around the corner,

XO,

Debi

Your creative use of dies and embossing folders to create this skeleton is AMAZING. So creative. Thanks for the inspiration!
