Embossing a Jar with Tim Holtz Die Cuts

7 Feb

Oh hey and happy Friday! Super excited to share a project I worked on a few months back using a few new Tim Holtz die cuts for Creativation.  For those of you who don’t know me, I am a.d.d. when it comes to staying in the same place with art.  I am always looking for a way to try something new, find a different niche, and perhaps even break the rules a bit. (Look at my instagram feed and you will see what I’m saying…lol!)  Are you like that too? Though I am a big fan of Tim’s style and I am very much a vintage girl at heart, I wanted to show a different side of Tim’s die. It is important to me that I explore the bandwidth of a product.  Making a stencil from the Bouquet and Doodle Art dies made perfect sense! I have been into modern and clean decor lately so I approached this project with that in mind. Reality is, I could have easily made a card. I could have made something old and weathered. Both would work. But I didn’t want to take those avenues.  There is something satisfying about finding a different path, that is where the heart of my art is, and that inevitably, is what keeps me going.

So here is the project I made.  Super easy!   I bought this jar at Hobby Lobby but you can recycle one, buy it from Goodwill or a garage sale, wherever.  I applied gold leafing to the jar as indicated on the gold leafing packaging.  While waiting for it dry, I die-cut the Bouquet image from card stock, creating a stencil. (List and link of products is at the bottom of this post.) Once the leafing had dried, I misted the back of the “stencil” with Pixie Spray and adhered it down.  Using a worn credit card, I applied Texture Paste to the image. Once the entire design was covered with the paste I did a clean sweep with the card and then lifted off the stencil and let it dry.  That was it!

The smaller bottle was even easier! No gold leafing involved at all. I wiped the outside of the bottle with alcohol first and then applied a different die cut, Doodle Art. Both of these dies are a favorite of mine. I will share some other projects I created with them later.

I love this die design so much. It would make a fabulous addition to a wedding table scape. Hmmmm. 🙂 . The wedding florist that I am in my other life, has some ideas going now! 😉

Now, are you interested in these flower pods? They are a Tim Holtz die cut too! Can you guess?

Ah, but that’s for another post. If you don’t want to miss it, you might consider subscribing to my blog. It’s on the right of this post.

XO,

Debi

I have included a list of the products I used to create the above projects. Just so you know, I am part of an Affiliate Link. That means that I earn a percentage of any sale of products but that cost is never passed on to you, the customer. I appreciate you coming here whether you purchase anything or not. My passion is to make art accessible and easy for everyone.

I also used gold leafing. It is available at your local craft store

I absolutely adore this, but, none of theses familiar to me and the instructions are like Greek to me…is there any way we could get more simplified instructions for those of us that have never used the stencils? Teresa
