Well friends, with Tim Holtz’s Chapter 2 Release of Sizzix dies here, I thought it might be the right time to showcase a few of the projects that I created for him. Always such a joy to create with anything he and his team dream up. I loved this launch a lot and could have taken several different directions with the artwork I selected, but instead I decided not to “color inside the lines” with these items, preferring to give you a different approach to his art. I chose modern and trendy in both of my applications, proving that his images are relevant to whatever style or era one likes to embrace. Changes in color palettes, simplified designs/materials and/or unique element additions to the die-cuts themselves, result in an entirely different visual effect.
(Side note: Products used in the two projects are shown at the end of this post. )
A perfect example of this is the Circle Hanging Wall decor piece. Tim’s Stacked Circles Thinlit dies gave me a variety of sizes to work with. (No having to cut a billion circles over and over again.) The Circles are fabulous for cards and mixed media elements but I decided to create something that would be a bit organic and that could be used in my home. I created lots of the pieces using indigo-dyed or watercolored paper, poly foam (yep, the stuff in the kid’s art section), rusty embossing powder, paint, string, natural-colored beads, torn fabric and a wood piece. Because I was uncertain where this would hang from, I made sure to cover the back with corresponding Circles as well.
To add some variety to the Circles, I die-cut a piece of cardstock using the Doodle Art Thinlit die as a stencil template and placed it on some of the circles and applied texture paste to it. Love the dimension and patterns it created.
My next project was influenced by my daughters who seem to have a continuous stream of bridal showers to attend. As a wedding florist, I have noticed that weddings are simple, clean and modern so that is exactly how approached this box. I made my own box to fit the size of the Doodle Art image, but it would be easy to locate one similar in size or even slightly larger.
I tied it up with ribbon, attached one of the Scribbly Butterflies, cut in both white cardstock and Tim’s Metallic Gold from the Paper Stash, added a swig of greenery (gold paper) from Tim’s Wildflower Stems 1 Thinlits and I was done.
So there you have my “two” cents. Looking forward to playing with these products again and challenging myself to change up their look and application. It is my hope that something here inspired you to either start creating or it pushed your creative envelope.
Thanks for hanging out!
XO,
Debi

Debi, I would have guessed in a “New York minute”, that these were your projects. Elegant AND “rusty-crusty”! Perfect “outside the box” as only you can do. I LOVE THEM BOTH!!! Have a great day and take care of yourself. Love ya, Jan ❤️
