A Valentine’s Card Using Tim Holtz’ Lucky Love 3-D Impresslits Cut & Emboss Folder

21 Jan

Hi there! I’m back to creating as always, but with an entirely different project, though you will note, I continue to practice on my photography, even with this featured card. (See past posts). Last Saturday, January 16th, I had a Facebook Live with Seth Apter (here) and I came in at the tail end of Tim Holtz’ youtube featuring his NEW die-cuts for the New Year. (If you missed it, go here. It is fantastic! ) Today I thought I would showcase just one card that was featured there. I really love all of the dies I get to work with, but these 3-D Impresslits are extra special. Love the dimensionality that they bring and that they remind me of all that yummy vintage Dresden. I think this is the only cut and emboss set that was released and I pretty much created all my projects for Tim using this set as you will see in future posts. Anyway, today’s piece is this vintage card…

I wish you could see how deep these hearts emboss! Swoon. TIP: If you mist your cardstock lightly with water before cutting it, you will find that there will be a lot less cracking of the paper. (I made the mistake of forgetting. It has been corrected here) Once dry, I embellished the heart with a light pink marker and an 18 kt. gold marker.

The background was created from ivory cardstock that was embellished with a variety of blue and green Distress Oxide Inks. I then cut the Flowery Thinlits die from ivory cardstock and lightly dusted it with the same shade of ink. Make sure to dry the background before adhering the die-cut to the background so that the adhesive will stick.. Use a heat tool if necessary.

The Bloom Colorize leaves and small buds were cut from white cardstock and colored with Oxide Inks and a blending tool. I lightly touched the edges with the same 18 kt. gold marker. (That’s a must have in my art box, btw.) A few leaves were cut from Tim’s gold metallic cardstock and I plucked a few of his white millinery flowers from his idea-ology line and included them in with the rest of the bunch.

Once I adhered everything down, I added a bit of gold twine and a tiny piece of netting for a romantic appeal. “With Love” was stamped and embossed in gold onto a piece of ivory cardstock and placed on the card.

It was really a fun card to make. Adding lots of different layers creates lots of interest and I get to keep the card-making going. Unless there’s a deadline, who wants to stop creating?

Well that’s it for me today. What’s on your creative agenda? Hope you get to carve out a little time for play.

Just gorgeous Debi. I love your use of color and as always I love your diversity of styles. Is the gold pen by chance Krylon or something else? Thank you.
