Hello everyone! Hope you all are doing well and ready to get your craft on. I am so excited to be delivering the instructions for Tim’s Retro Oven Holiday Treat bag, finally! I apologize that it has taken so long. I have to say I was absolutely blown away by all the love I received for this project. Thank you so much! This adorable oven is so cute and makes for an easy favor. I think you’ll find that you can do an assembly line and get them made fairly quickly depending on how detailed you want to make them. There is an affiliate link at the end of this post if you find you are interested in purchasing any of the products shown here. Please know that I receive a small percentage of the sale but that amount is never passed onto you and I would never try to sell something I wouldn’t use myself.
With that said, let’s look at the oven again…
You will first need to cut two of the ovens from red cardstock or any color you want for that matter. Use clear tape to reattach one of the oven doors to the oven (front side) to prevent it from moving. The tape will get covered. This one will become the back of the oven.
Adhere a 2 7/8″ x 2 1/2″ piece of silver metallic cardstock to fit just inside the oven door that was covered. This will hide the cut window and serve as the inside back of the oven. (It should actually match up with the square box embossed lines that are outside of the window area.)
Now take the front oven piece and splatter it with white acrylic paint using a paint brush so that it resembles vintage speckled ware. Allow to dry.
Attach a piece of clear window plastic or cellophane to the inside oven door with adhesive. You can also use Sizzix’s Round Square Shaker Dome for a dimensional effect.
Now it’s time to make the oven into a box. Cut a strip of red cardstock 2 1/2″ wide x 9 3/8″ long. (The red strip shown). The drawing below explains the exact measurements for scoring, creasing and snipping. I put the red strip next to it so you can see how it should look. Score 1/4″ down on both of the long sides. Score lengthwise, 3 1/4″ down from the top of the strip. Turn strip around and score 3 1/4″ down again. If you fold each of the middle strips in half, you can make even snip cuts on either side. Once completed, crease all areas that have been scored with all folding going in the same direction.
Your 3-sided box should look like this folded up…
Now it’s time to attach strong tape to all three sides. You will need to turn this piece over and attach strong tape to the other side as well.
Peel back the protective plastic to the adhesive and attach to the oven back, making sure it is even on the sides and bottom. Smooth edges over with fingers to secure adhesive. Once completed, attach the other side to the oven front, smoothing edges again. It should now look like this…
The oven itself is now ready to be embellished. I added the oven details using red glitter paper, red cardstock, Tim’s silver metallic cardstock as well as black and white cardstock but please, do you! I thought the oven needed a little greening so I added the holly and mistletoe die-cut pieces from Tim’s Holiday Brushstroke 2 Thinlit Set.
And what’s an oven with out a towel, right? I just cut a rectangle from white cardstock, gave it fringe and added some love with a red pen. It was attached the oven door handle.
Since this treat box contained gingerbread cookies, I decided to add some of Tim’s gingerbread boy die-cuts (included in the Oven set and embellished with a white Uni-ball pen) and Holly to the front of the oven. If you want, you can darken up the edges of the oven by lightly adding some Vintage Photo or Black Soot ink to the edges.
Then I added some goodies to the bag…
The treats were hot chocolate (wrapped in polka dot paper), a snowflake-embellished straw and some gingerbread cookies. ( I bought them because I knew they would be the perfect size.)
And, that’s it folks. The pattern for the gusset is key to making this! Hope these instructions were easy to follow and understand. Again, thank you for your patience!

Thank you so much for providing the details on this awesome make. I love this idea, and am realizing how many other dies can be used in this way.
