StencilGirl® and Emerald Creek Embossing Powders Blog Hop with Seth Apter

16 Aug

Hi everyone! Welcome to day THREE of StencilGirl® and Emerald Creek’s Blog Hop with Seth Apter!  Have you not been blown away by all the creativity you have seen in the past two days? If you have missed any of them, scroll to the bottom of this post because I am certain you will want to check them out. Also, we have an amazing GIVEAWAY that is fabulous!  It’s at the bottom of my post too.

As many of you know, I juggle many creative hats. Just take a look at my blog for example, sorta A.D.D. here…lol!  It’s always interesting navigating from one genre to another. Sometimes it takes days!   To get started with this project, I chose what I was comfortable with, namely cards, and then created my own mixed media twist. Art. You gotta love it! Endless opportunities and never, ever boring! Excited to show you what I did with Seth’s sentiment. And here is my 3-D card showcasing StencilGirl® stencils and Emerald Creek and Seth Apter embossing powders. Can you tell which ones I used?

For the card base, I used mixed media paper and slathered a bunch of ephemera papers onto  it using collage glue then wiped some paint across the paper. Adding stencils was the fun part. Hmmm, so many choices! I picked Rae Missigman’s Repetition stencil and MaryBeth Shaw’s Planner Words. Then and there I decided to add a little Vintage Beeswax into the corner, which is close to my top favorite embossing powder ever :).  I did several coats of the Beeswax then threw it into the freezer (learned that as a Close To My Heart demonstrator years ago) then bent the paper to make it crack.  Eye candy.

As for the pop out portion of the card, I cut several parallel slits on both sides of the fold making sure I scored the top and bottom area of the strips instead of cutting them. This made the card dimensional.

I traced and cut out several of Seth Apter’s 3 Rings stencil using a white pen onto black cardstock (I connected them to form complete rings where the stencil dictated broken lines), did some mark making and finally applied Rocky Road embossing powder to some of them. I love the texture of Rocky Road. Very chunky. Then I overlapped and layered them onto the pop-out portion of the card.

For the bottom half of the card, I traced and cut out more of the 3 Rings but from cream paper, grunged them up a bit with distress ink, and adhered them to the bottom of the card.

And finally, can you tell how I created the show piece? One of my favorite mini stencils, “Now is the Time” by Seth Apter is so reasonably priced, especially when StencilGirl® and MaryBeth have a sale that I used the actual stencil itself! I applied PaperArtsy paint in layers using Chocolate Pudding, Little Black Dress, Green Patina, a touch of Mahogany and Mud Splat onto the sentiment. I added brushes of glue here and there and added my favorite Emerald Creek and Seth Apter embossing powder, Chunky Rust, to create a bit of texture, as well as color. Using pop dots to give it dimension, I adhered it in place. I mounted the entire card base onto a piece of cardstock for stability and to create a background for the pop out portion, and then placed it all inside a slightly larger card base that had been layered with lots of the PaperArtsy paint.  And that was it! So much fun.

Almost a bit busy for me but I’m leaving it. It was nice to do something a little bit different.

I added just a touch of Vintage Beeswax in the corner to this side of the card too!

Looks almost like metal here. Love how the paints and embossing powders work together! Because of the material of the stencil, I did not heat set this, preferring the powdery look.

Here is the layered cover.

So excited to be a part of this hop! There are so many fantastic designers participating. Keep going! The list is below.  And if you missed any others, their links are listed as well.

I think its so cool that you used the actual stencil to make that amazing rusty statement piece, and the cover, so simple yet a bit of a glimpse into what is in store is just perfect!
