More of Creativation 2019, a Project Using Tim Holtz Dies & a Blog Hop

5 Feb

Happy Tuesday everyone!  So thankful you could join me here on Richele Christensen’s Blog Hop.  What an exciting hop this is as we are all showcasing at least one of our favorite projects we created for Tim Holtz at Creativation 2019 and Richelle is having a ***Giveaway***.

With so many fantastic dies to choose from, not only was it fun to create but it was hard to stop!  Last week I showcased my watercolor tray and today I am featuring my clay pot wreath and birdhouse.  My clay pot features a ton of Tim’s new Funky Floral Large  dies as well as the new Wild Flowers Stems 1 and  Wild Flowers Stems 2  by Sizzix. In addition I used the bee die from his Entomology collection.

I covered a thin grapevine wreath with Spanish moss and added hand-painted clay pots, some were broken but it didn’t matter. I thought it lent itself to the average garden greenhouse look.  I adhered the pots to the wreath by going through the center of the pots with jute and tying them off, eventually adding bits of hot glue onto to the wreath to make the pots very secure.  I hid the jute with a green, sponge-type moss. The viney greens were purchased on a roll at your local craft supply store.  I die-cut lots and lots of greens and shaded them with various colors of distress ink and distress oxide. Using black ink really enhances the shading so make sure you give it a shot! And some greens have a tinge of pink or white so don’t hesitate to apply them.

I filled in any gaps with green and Spanish moss.  The bee was cut from Metallic Confections Kraft Cardstock (silver) by Tim Holtz and painted in several colors of acrylic paints to achieve a rusty look.

And pipe cleaners work like a charm to create that palm frond look. I also added the branch die from the Funky Floral Large die and shaded it too.

Because I was on a roll, I decided to embellish this bird house using Tim’s Intricate Lace die, the daisy die and the branch from the Funky Floral Die set. The edge of the roof was finished with the Crochet die (new) and was cut from fun foam.

I always like to add moss and wild things to my flowers so it creates something more realistic and natural. I colored my flowers with Copic markers and distress inks using blending tools. And the tiny little black markings do make a difference! And finally, the collector in me had to add a few little treasures to the house. A tiny handle and knob finished off the bird house.

And I have more to showcase but since you are on a blog HOP, I better stop. Next up is Emma Williams and I KNOW you won’t want to miss what she is showcasing! I am always inspired by her work.

***Giveaway***
Please leave a comment on the each blog before February 9th at midnight PST and 3 winners will be selected and announced on February 10th.

XO,

Debi

These are absolutely sensational and awe inspiring projects. It’s amazing to see the dies used the way you have within the clay pot wreath. The bird house is gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us!

Both projects are lovely, but I particularly love the birdhouse. Somehow I’ve started collecting quirky interesting birdhouses for display and this looks like one I’d have to have if I came across it while shopping! I love the lace detail on the roof and the florals are just fantastic.

The wreath and birdhouse you made makes me think of summer. I say that as there is an ice storm outside right now so that is a wonderful thing!

What a FABULOUS example of how we can take our die cuts off the flat surfaces and into the 3-D world!! This wreath caught my eye, as it was, then getting to “discover” the details, with this closer look, through the Blog Hop, was SO cool! Thank you for sharing!
