Welcome back to a new My Monthly Hero Kit Countdown for March of 2021! Super happy to reveal just a few of the fabulous designs that are a part of this amazing set. March brings us “all the positivities of reading”, something all of us can relate to and need. With that theme in mind, I thought it would be fun to make a card that had a coordinating bookmark and could work both for an adult and/or a child.
To make this card, I used a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ side folded, Dove White card base. I stamped and die-cut the tree, girl, and cat from Dove White cardstock using Intense Black Ink and embellished them with Copic Markers and set them aside. (Sounds like I’m baking something, lol.) I then cut a piece of white cardstock, 2″ x 5 1/2″. This created the bookmark itself. I stamped only the left part of the tree onto the right side of bookmark and colored it in. I went back over to the original card (no tree there yet) and colored the sky and grass using blending tools and Pool Party, Taffy, Lemon Drop and Key Lime Reactive Inks.
Now to make the pocket. I cut a piece of vellum 8 1/2″long x 5 1/2″ high. I scored the center of the card at 4 1/4″. Next I scored the front of the card at 2 1/8″ and folded it in towards the inside of the card. (Here the card is folded out and flat so you can see the bookmark pocket.)
For easy access to the bookmark, a half circle was punched at the top of the pocket (one layer only). I sealed the pocket by running a very thin line of glue on the edge of the pocket that folds into the main fold. It should look like this…
Attach cat to bookmark. After glue has dried, insert bookmark into sleeve. Now you are ready to attach the whole tree to the front of the card. Adhere tree to front of embellished card base making sure to line up tree with tree on bookmark in the pocket.
I fussy-cut and colored a pillow for the girl’s head and attached it to the card base. The girl was attached to the vellum part of the card only so that the pocket could still open if desired.
Last step is to stamp and emboss sentiment onto card front using Versamark ink and white embossing powder onto Pitch Black cardstock. Trim and attach to card.
Wah la! Done! Pretty easy card and fun to give away!

What a delightful card. I love how you made the bookmark and pocket, so that the book mark reveals half the tree. Your coloring is always wonderful. How I wish I could just stretch out under that tree and get lost in a book. (But I would need a crane to get me up LOL)

Love these stamps and shows you can read anywhere. My recent faux pas was when I was reading in the bathtub and fell asleep. I love this stamp set and looks like another great kit from Hero Arts.

This card design is brilliant! How clever! I can envision all sorts of scenes to use this style of card with! I have a question: I don’t know how you attached the vellum pocket piece to the Dove card base though. Do you glue it onto the back of the cardstock card base? Thank you for sharing this really cool card with us!!!!
