Well May has arrived and bringing with it is an exciting new My Monthly Hero Kit and Add-ons by Hero Arts. This month’s feature is all about Under the Sea and I sure do “sea” an “ocean” of possibilities! (Sorry, not sorry. ;)) Honestly, this collection has some of the most creative and detailed designs that are sure to translate into a variety of creative cards and projects. Before I reveal the kit itself, I want to remind you that with every new launch, there is a blog hop with a crew of amazing designers and a fabulous $50.00 gift card giveaway, all located at the end of this post.
So let’s talk about that NEW My Monthly Hero Kit? “Fin-tastic”, right?
Here’s what you will receive in the kit, valued at $70.00 but available for $34.99:
6″ x 8″ Clear Stamp Set, 12 Coordinating Frame Cuts, Intense-ified Black Ink Cube, Contour Ink Cube, Turquoise Sparkle Embossing Powder, 0.5oz., 2-5.5″ x 8.5″ Sheets of Rose Quartz Cardstock, 2-5.5″ x 8.5″ Sheets Quartz Pearlescent Cardstock, 3- 5.5″ x 8.5″ White Cardstock with Lined Texture
And as many of you know, there are only so many kits on hand. Once they are sold out, they are gone.
First up is this fun, dimensional card. I love adding depth to my cards. This one actually folds down to a 4.5″ x 6″ card.
Here are the easy directions…
Cut a sheet of Dove White cardstock 7″ x 9″ and score 3″ in on one side and then score 1.5″ in from the edge, as shown.
Trim off 2.5″ off the 7″ side so that it creates two pieces, with the smaller one being your sand band. See below.
Now fold on score lines. Before I assembled my card, I embellished the back base with Key Lime, Green Apple, Blue Raspberry and Grape Slush Reactive Inks (in that order) and misted them with water. The sand base was created with Creamsicle Reactive Ink and a little bit of Key Lime Ink at the top.
For quick assembly, I like to stamp, color and cut out all my design images altogether. Such fabulous sea life! Love the jelly fish and coral the most.
Before attaching the sand band to either end, I inserted a trimmed up piece of coral (top piece above) so that it was partially hidden and fit into the area correctly. I colored it a different color from the other piece of identical coral so that there would be a distinction from one to the other. The remaining pieces of sea life from the cut coral (seashell and anemone) were scored and adhered to the side of the left tab. See photo below. I also added the small piece of coral.
The fish in the background was attached using foam dots.
The front was pretty much all assembly. Laying the coral piece down first, I then attached the jellyfish. The fish and seahorse were adhered to the base using foam dots.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment onto Pitch Black cardstock using Embossing Ink and white embossing powder. This card actually folds down flat for easy mailing.
If you don’t follow me on instagram, today might be a good day. I feature this card and show how it opens and then lays flat on a little video. (Go here).
I created nearly 6 cards using this set already and they all look different. You can see some of them on the Hero Arts site banner featuring the new Kit. Here’s one up close.
I never leave out the add-ons because I love them as much as the kit. All the add-on stamps and die-cuts plus the Main Kit are available for purchase and are linked at the end of my post.
This was the first add-on set I gravitated too! I knew I wanted to emboss the shells in white. The background was created with Blue Raspberry, Pool Party and Grape Slush Reactive Inks, water and the Bubble Bold Print onto watercolor paper. The shells were colored with markers.
And of course no sea scene collection is complete without a mermaid! The background was watercolored using Reactive Inks in Key Lime, Green Apple and Pool Party. Happiness Waves Bold Print Sentiment was then stamped in same color of inks in an ombre-style. Hero Arts Lifestyle Forms with the new Mermaid attire was colored using Copic Markers. The seaweed is from the Abalone set and the fish from the Mermaid collection.
I love blending colors. I added just a little bit of glitter lacquer to the mermaid fins.
Well that’s my bit of inspiration for today’s launch. Sure hope you found something that inspired you! Next up is Emily Midgett where she will definitely take you on another creative sea adventure. Check out her amazing blog.
Thanks for hanging out with me.

As usual, Debi, you’ve inspired me again!! As a lover of dimensional cards, I am drawn most by your first card. I loved how you colored the coral differently so you could use it twice on the same card without it looking like you used the same stamp. And the scene: Gorgeous!! I also really liked your torn cardstock sand and the white embossed shells. Wow!! Thank you again for sharing your inpirational work!
