Ah, the day has finally arrived! Super excited to be sharing the NEW My Monthly Hero Kit for September along with a few add-on sets. Every year I say the same thing. Autumn is my favorite season! Same thing this year. But one thing does change and that’s the new products that are released by Hero Arts. As always, lots of inspiration and possibilities to the kit as well as the additional collections. Let’s start with my project and the kit first. Oh I love this Fall Goodness Sunflower kit! Check out the Hero Arts slider image (opening website page) on their site to see the many ways to work this Sunflower. (Btw, all products featured here are available for purchase and located at the end of this post.)
Here’s what the kit looks like…
And here’s how the layered stenciling works…
In this kit you will receive the following:
• 4″ x 6″ Clear Stamp Set
• Coordinating Frame Cut
• 2 Fancy Word Dies
• 5 Color Layering Stencils
• 1 Ink Blending Brush
• 4 Ink Cubes (Butter Bar, Caramel, Root Beer, Key Lime Fizz)
It’s available for a special value of $34.99, regularly $87.00. All the My Monthly Hero Kits are only available while supplies last. Once they run out, they are gone. So be sure to order yours right away. You can also subscribe to the kits and you will never miss the opportunity to get one. (See link at the end of my post for more information on subscriptions). Add-on sets however, are replenished.
So let’s talk a little bit about how I created this mixed media card.
I used a piece of 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Dove White Cardstock for the base. I added lots of different pieces of random ephemera (old papers, etc.) using a glue stick. I think I used at least 5 different pieces. Some were torn and others were cut. Then I took the Sun Background stencil and lightly applied the image to the background using a blending brush and the Butter Bar ink.
I inserted the entire piece into a Misti Stamping platform and stamped the outlined Sunflower design onto the background with Intense Black ink. Because there are variations of layers on the substrate, it might be necessary to do several applications of stamping and inking to get a dark impression.
I then used the different inks to add colors to the different parts of the layering Sunflowers until I got the look I desired. I went back in and randomly colored parts of the Sunflower centers with a brown Copic Marker.
Flicking black and white acrylic paint onto the base was next. I stamped the sentiment onto a strip of Dove White cardstock that was backed with Pitch Black cardstock. Before adhering it all to the card base, I lightly brushed the Sun stencil again onto the piece using Butter Bar ink. Done! I did a completely different card using the same MMH set on Friday. You can check it out here. Definitely lots of ways to work this collection.
Now onto the add-ons because I never leave them out!
Being a florist, how could I not feature a floral card? Love this Marigold. Just google “marigold” and you will be surprised to see all the color combos.
My card base was a slimline card, 3 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. The stamped gray paper was just a tad smaller than the slimline card. I came back and stamped the Marigold a few more times on Dove White cardstock, colored it in with Copic Markers, cut it out with the coordinating frame cuts and adhered it to the card base with foam adhesive. The sentiment was stamped and embossed on Pitch black cardstock and attached to card base.
This next card is super fun and really gives the feel of a fall breeze. I stamped the Leaves in the Wind Bold Prints onto a piece of Dove White cardstock and colored it in. The Autumn Leaves Frame Cuts were cut, colored with Reactive Inks using a blending brush and attached to card base using foam dots.
One of my favorite techniques for adding dimension to a card is to outline the designs with a light gray marker. It seems to highlight the objects. I did this with a lot of the background leaves and the swirls. I gave this card a little bit of an ombre effect using Copic Markers with gradient colors floating to the bottom.
So those are just a few of the samplings from this month’s kit and add-ons. Sure hope you found something that inspired you. Next up on the hop is Emily Midgett. She is an amazing designer and I’m sure she’s worked up some beauties with September’s offerings. If you are just now joining the hop, I have a list of the creatives near the bottom of this post. Feel free to catch up there. Also, don’t forget to enter the giveaway.
We will give away one $50 gift card, drawn from the comments left across the hop. Enter by Sunday, September 12th at 11:59pm Pacific, and the winner will be announced on the Hero Arts blog the following week.
Until next time,
