Do you have some items in the back of your closet that are too nice to ditch but you have hardly ever worn? I have plenty. Think I’m afraid to let them go, just in case! In case of what? Well this time I did good by holding on. I had this great jean jacket. I have like 3 of these so I don’t even know why I purchased this one. I’m fairly certain it was from Goodwill at a half price sale. Anyway, I got this cool idea to change it up. I went on an estate sale hunt and found a vintage tablecloth. The tablecloth was large enough for two jackets so I made one for my bestie, Penny. We have pretty much everything the same…same purse, same wallet, same car, on and on. But she stole my license plate (JK!). Whatever. I’m over it ;).
So here are some pics of what I did. Minimal sewing skills involved.
Here is my original jacket.
So I basically just cut the jacket where I would like the lace to hang. Everyone has a different placement for their waistline so I am not telling you how far down to cut your jacket. Just remember to snap or button your buttons before you cut.
This is the amazing tablecloth I got for $15.00. I cleaned it first and then I used one side for each jacket. Oh, and in case you are wondering, yes, it was hard to cut this beautiful piece. I happen to become attached to a lot of my finds. Yep, trouble for sure but somehow I let this one go.
After I decided how long I wanted the lace panel to be, I cut it straight across and then gathered the raw edge as seen in this pic…

I want to see it on YOU! 🙂
Oh I so hate selfies! Lol! Ok, I will work on that :).
Debi you are such an inspiration, I just love everything you create!
Thank you Terre. You are always so kind.
FABULOUS~!!! Yes, I want YOU to model 🙂 You need to get someone at the office to take it!! Can't wait!!
Thanks Margie. Will try today but you know I hate to get my pic taken. :).
OMG!! This is fabulous!!! I had an old pair of jeans and an old jean jacket YEARS ago that I turned into a mini skirt and the jacket was made into a lace up the back jacket with lace trim. I wore it to my brother's wedding and got lots of compliments!!! I am now anxious to get my hands on another old denim jacket so I can give it a makeover and wear it everywhere!!! JHoping to find one for me and one for my 3 year old granddaughter so we can have matching jackets!! Thanks for the inspiratioN!
Oh Barb, that would be so cute! Send me a pic when you get them done :).
