Last week it was my daughter’s 30th birthday. With four daughters ranging in age from 23 to 30, I have done A LOT of parties. Coming up with new ideas can be challenging. I was pressed for time and really needed something relatively inexpensive for her party at work so this is what I came up with :). I guess you could say this was a diy, recycle, party idea. Since cactus are trendy and we live in Phoenix, I went with cactus. Here is what I created…
I cut various shapes of oval cactus pieces from a box. Scissors worked fine but you could use an exacto knife too! Whatever is easiest. Then I painted it all with acrylic paint. The polka dots were created by dipping a pencil eraser into the white paint. When dry, I snipped a piece of the cactus out so that the pieces could be easily connected to another piece. The bottom pieces were secured together using hot glue, to add stability to the base.
The nicest part of this decor is that it is easy to transport and easy to store! Adding a flower or two was just the icing on the cake. To see how to create this flower, go here. The flower I used was Simple Anemone found here and I used various shades of crepe paper for the petals. Please notice that instead of creating a stamen, I just wrapped a mini styrofoam ball in tissue paper and inserted a floral wire with glue on the end into the ball.
Finally, I die-cut the sentiment from this alphabet and attached them to twine and strung it across the cactus.
I think that this was fairly easy to create and very inexpensive. Would you give it a shot? Would love to know what you think.
XO,
Debi
