Three Winners and Mixed Media Monday

8 Jan

Hi Friends,

Happy New Year and it is going to be especially good for three ladies!  Anyway, for those of you who just signed up for my blog, I want to let you know that I am all over the place when it comes to art.  One post might be about a cute party ensemble, two days later I might be creating something from the junk I collect or perhaps decorating cookies.  I love it all!  Today I have a mixed media project that I worked on earlier this year. This is one of my favorite art mediums to delve into.  It really makes my mind think way outside the box and takes me to an entirely different place than my daily art/craft work does. My project was created using artist Seth Apter’s stencils, dies and stamps.  New to Seth Apter and The Altered Page?  Go here.  The die used in this piece is his latest one called “Coffee Break” by Spellbinders. You can purchase it from him here. The stencil is by StencilGirl and is called “Text and Texture Explore”. Have I mentioned how much I love stencils? So much layering fun! It’s hard to create mixed media without them. They add so many details. The stamp that is used to create some of the background is called “Faded Fragments” ,again by Seth and produced by Impression Obsession. This is one of my go-to stamps. Love the messy cross-hatchings.  The paint used is by PaperArtsy and Golden. They are pretty much the only paints I like to use outside of watercolors. The colors are deep, rich and so full of life.

Most everything in this card was created by layering paint over and over again, adding stamp and stencil details and then defining the designs with black and white pens.

I like to tie some sort of string into the art. I suppose it’s my signature piece. All those paint splatterings are a must.  It’s like child’s play really. Don’t you want to give it a shot?

Some of the texture is created through the paper itself as seen in the cross hatches. I like to add “light” colors into the deep tones, as seen in the white, yellow and gold specks.

So that’s it for today. What did you think? Would you try it? Mixed media. Layers of messy madness. Love.

Oh WAIT!  Wait just a minute!  Didn’t I say we have THREE winners?  Oh yes…here we go…..

Oh. My. Gosh. I so love this! What an amazing piece. Such a contrast to your previous pastel piece using Seth’s products. Love the versatility you’ve shown us. I’ve acquired quite a few Seth Apter dies and stamps since you so highly recommended I check him out…….haven’t made it to a class yet, but hoping to one day. I even joined Stencil Club in December so I could get his private release! Thanks again for the suggestion.

I had to come back and say how much more excited I was when I remembered my huge prize package includes the die that “didn’t make the cut”! I loved that die and would have been thrilled just to have won that. To see all of the other gorgeous goodies on top of it…well, it will be Christmas all over again for me. Thank you for your generosity!
