StencilGirl and Lindy’s Gang Blog Hop-Playing with Moon Shadow Mist, Embossing Powder and Stencils

17 Apr

Hi everyone! I’m Debi Adams and what an amazing blog hop featuring Lindy’s Gang products AND StencilGirl stencils we have today!  There are nearly 34 design team member participants (wow!) from both companies who have been creating like crazy to show you what incredible projects you can make from a variety of their products. Additionally we have an exciting giveaway that you can enter. Scroll to the bottom of this post for more details and good luck!

Since I mostly play with stencils, paints and watercolors and I am new to Lindy’s powders and mists, I didn’t have a clue what I was going to create.  After a few “magic” mistakes, I figured it all out and then I couldn’t stop!  The truth about the Lindy’s Moon Shadow mists are that their true colors show as they dry!  Pretty amazing stuff.  And Lindy’s gold embossing powder I used, really made my stenciled image pop-out. I can’t wait to show you how fun and easy this project was to create.

I used Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper as my substrate, watercolors and a watercolor brush. I like to add a puddle of water first and then add swirls of watercolors onto the paper. Some variations of colors are good too!

After I let the paper dry, I went back in and misted it with Lindy Gang’s Moon Shadow Mist in Tawny Turquoise (my fav color) and Smoky Sapphire.

Initially when spraying, the paint resembles brown, like a LOT. But, just wait!  As it dries the “magic” happens and it changes colors.  A chameleon of sorts and definitely a dual personality…lol! Now I wanted some of the brown to be darker in my piece so I came back and misted it again. It was kind of a trial and error for a bit but eventually I liked what happened.  If you mist high, you get a fine mist. If you pump slow, you get splatter effects.  Pretty fun, huh?And just look at those yummy colors!

Here is a close up of the heavy brown mist as it begins to morph into more turquoise.

Once again, I let everything dry then I came back in and stenciled some words using Let’s Go 1 by Mary C. Nasser  using a permanent ink pad and blending tool.

Then I was ready to emboss my main image.  I personally love dimension on my projects, so to enhance the embossing, I used texture paste onto my Calligraphy stencil by MaryBeth Shaw first.

Then I removed the stencil…

and sprinkled King Midas Gold embossing powder onto the paste.

A quick shot from the embossing tool lit this baby up! Mighty fine I say!

After that, it was just a matter of using a gold pen on the stencils Urban Insiders Circle by Seth Apter and Repetition by Rae Missigman and a random circle.

And of course, nothing finishes off a project better than some rusty, crackly embellishments and string.

What a fun day of play. Hoping you learned something new here today. Don’t forget to continue down the blog hop road. Plenty of inspiration there. Next up is Tina Walker and she is amazing! And don’t forget to scroll on down to see how to enter the Lindy’s Gang and StencilGirl giveaway! As always, thanks for stopping by.

XO,

Debi
