Hero Arts Blog Hop-The New “My Monthly Hero Kit” for October & Giveaway!

1 Oct

Welcome to Santa’s Workshop, well not really, but it’s starting to look a little like it.  Hi friends! I am happy to be on the Hero Arts Blog Hop today. It’s especially exciting for me because every Christmas my family and I do some sort of a gift wrap party and this will get me started. I generally buy all the coordinating goodies and everyone just drops in and wraps.  With these new stamps and dies, I think my work is going to be a breeze and I’m actually going to be ahead of the game!  All of my projects used the add-on sets to the “My Monthly Kit” for October.  They are  Merry & Bright Messages, Color Layering Trimmings and Color Layering Trimmings Frame Cuts . To see the new My Monthly Kit and see the **GIVEAWAY** scroll to the bottom of this post.  With these sets, I was able to create a myriad of projects.

Let’s start with the gift tag. When I think of Hero Arts, I automatically think of cardmaking so I challenged myself to do something different.  Since organic colors are in,  I decided to wrapped my gift in Kraft paper.

I  purchased some small wood slices at a local hobby store and stamped the sentiments onto the wood slices using a mixture of Intense Black ink and Cup ‘O Joe.  I needed the permanency of the black ink but the lightness of the brown. I was going for more of a wood burning look.  I think it worked out great. And of course, there was no bleeding of ink. (For a shadow look, try adding a very light brown or gray under the stamped word.)  The pine bough behind the slice was stamped in black onto cream cardstock, colored in with green ink, shaded  with a gray marker and snow “dots” were added using a white pen.  I die-cut it out so I could adhere it to the back of the wood slice. Attaching a red and white striped straw, checked ribbon and black carpet thread completed the look and I was done!  It was that easy!

Here is a sample where I added shadow to the sentiment.

For variety, try painting the wood slices with black or cream paint and then stamping them with Intense Black or Unicorn White ink. *Tip: I sanded the wood slightly before stamping to even the stamping surface out.  (Also, you may need to allow the white ink to dry a bit, blotting  if necessary).  These not only make great package toppers but ornaments too!

Of course these sets are fabulous for cardmaking no matter what style you embrace.  I created one in off white and one in Kraft colors.  The fun part is that you get to choose the look you want.  You will see another card from these stamps later this week on the Hero Arts Blog and it is one that is classy and elegant.

I stamped the pine boughs onto the card base and colored them in with markers. The white dots were from a white pen. I cut a circle for the sentiment and stamped it inside. A strip of festive paper added the finishing touch. I highlighted the words “Merry” and “Bright” with red and green markers.

So there you have it!  Going to start stamping and organizing so I am ready for my tribe at Christmas.  What about you?

Happy to have you on the hop!  You won’t want to miss what Emily Midgett  is showcasing today.

XO,

Debi

Lovely projects! I really love the wood. It has that nature, old school X-Mas vibe.

Great idea! It would be also awesome to have it as a tag/ornament they can hang afterward. Soooo beautiful and rustic!

I would not have thought of using wood slices in this way but your package toppers/ornaments came out so awesome with this kit. I can’t wait to try your techniques myself, thank you for sharing. (mardy14@bellsouth.net)

I use quite a bit of brown craft paper at my day job, so this color palette really speaks to me. I made a few projects a couple years ago with wood slices but used a wood burning tool, feel silly I didn’t even think about stamping them. Thank you for sharing your creations with us!!
